Sattriya Corner is a one-stop portal for all information related to Sattriya culture/tradition which includes Sattriya dance, one of the nine recognized classical dance forms of India. Initiated by saint-scholar Mahapurukh Shrimanta Sankardeva and his principal disciple Mahapurukh Shrimanta Madhabdeva in 15th century, Sattriya culture has become a way of life for the people living in Assam and neighboring states, in the northeastern part of India.
The main objective of Sattriya Corner is to spread the vibrant units of Sattriya tradition, without harming its originality, to different parts of the globe. This also wants to raise curiosity among readers by exploring the role of Sattriya tradition in rural economy, India’s freedom struggle, shaping up the social norms & narratives and building the current political discourse of NE India. For new generation culture enthusiasts, Sattriya Corner provides information on the use of technology in traditions, potential for a dedicated career option, fellowships and events in the domain, possibility of creating a revenue model and a comparative analysis of different classical dance forms across the globe.
Sattriya Corner is for everyone – from someone who has heard the word ‘Sattriya’ first time to a Sattriya guru, from a belly dancer in Egypt to a ‘khol badok’ in Assam, from a research student to a start-up founder. One objective of the portal is to create a diverse global community of people who appreciate the great creation of Mohapurukh Sankardeva and Madhavdeva.
Sattriya Corner wants to disseminate information in multiple formats. It contains articles, first-hand interviews, web-links to important information, guest articles, illustrations, photos & videos, reference to important books and journals etc.
Lastly, this is a humble initiative and request feedback and constructive criticism from everyone to improve Sattriya Corner.
